Sunidesus Knits

I'm home on vacation at the moment and my mom had said she'd like to try the whole KoolAid yarn dyeing thing. So I brought home a couple skeins and we had fun!

The top picture is what I did. We re-skeined it so I could have a bunch of nice long color stretches. The colors are various combinations of Lemonade, Orange, Ice Blue Raspberry, and Wilton's Violet. The rightmost purply/blue spot has gone darker as it's dried, and the leftmost purpley spot has skewed a tad to the pink.

The bottom picture is what Mom did. The colors are Black Cherry, Lemonade, and a combination of Ice Blue Raspberry and Wilton's Violet.

Mom's yarn is KP Bare, 75% superwash 25% nylon. I used the KP Bare 100% Wool, handwash.

Time for my second attempt at making the sunset socks I can see in my head! This time I did the rather time intensive method of making a long self-striping skein using pegs on a board. Once I understood how it worked it wasn't hard, it just takes a while to wind the skein!

Here's the set up yarn. You end up tying lots of little baby skeins. The shortest stretches work out to one round, the chunk on the bottom I wrapped twice so that part is actually four rounds.

I forgot to take any pictures while I was doing the actual dying, but here's the same set-up yarn after it was all dyed.

And all wound up in a nice tidy cake.

The colors are combinations of various Kool-Aid flavors and Wilton's food coloring. (note to self: it's all in the notebook with the dying stuff) The yarn is KP Bare Peruvian Highland Wool

Attempt number three on the sunset yarn. Once again a combo of various Kool-Aid and Wilton's colors. I did fewer yellow rows and more of the blue rows this time. Left a bunch of white in the blue as well since I decided there'd be clouds this time. The yarn is KP Bare Merino/Nylon.
